Human Waste to Industry Inputs in Boise with Steve Burgos
Steve Burgos is the director of Boise Public Works and came in to talk about Boise’s program that takes human waste from our homes and turns it into industry inputs. Through large, very specific processes, the public works can extract incredibly clean water as well as agricultural fertilizers that are then used on the farm owned by Boise. Those crops are grown and then sold at market, creating an almost zero net loss from the waste stream that we all literally flush down our toilets. Steve’s explanation of all of this was incredibly fascinating and a testament to human ingenuity and our capacity to stretch resources when needed. Enjoy!
